Tehran, YJC. Head of the Sports and Youth Bureau of Rigan, Kerman says that beach wrestling matches are to be held soon on the world’s highest sand dunes.
Mohammad Javad Qorbani, Head of the Sports and Youth Bureau
of Rigan said that traditional beach wrestling competitions will be soon held
on the dunes around Rigan, Kerman.
He added "Since these competitions were traditionally held
in Rigan county and have met good participation by the elderly, the sport, which
was declining in public interest, will be revived through holding beach
wrestling matches.”
Qorbani stated that athletes from western Kerman will attend
the matches.
He hoped that since the matches are being held officially
for the first time and on the world’s highest dunes they will attract a lot of spectators.
He further said that in the sidelines of the wrestling
matches, tug of war and camel riding competitions will also be held.
The world’s highest sand dunes 75 meters high exist 12 km
from Rigan in the Aliabad Posht Rig area.
Rigan County stands to the east of Kerman, central Iran, and is situated by the hot Lut Desert.
Some of the sand dunes in this area are 75 m high.
The area has become a tourist attraction as people travel from neighboring provinces to treat their illnesses by burying themselves under the hot sand.
