TEHRAN, June 25, YJC - Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was given a warm reception by the faithful on Sunday when he joined in Eid al-Fitr prayers in the west-central province of Hama, to mark the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.

Syria's Assad joins prayers to mark end of Ramadan

TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Assad took part in prayers at the al-Noori mosque located north of Damascus.

State television showed Assad being greeted by Syrian Grand Mufti Ahmed Badreddin Hassoun and scores of well-wishers.

During the holy month, adult Muslims are required to fast from sunrise to sundown as an effective way of practicing self-discipline. They are also expected to avoid sinning and to strengthen their souls through praying, charitable deeds, and introspection.

Muslim people mark the Eid al-Fitr festival at the end of Ramadan.
