TEHRAN, July 16, YJC - Iran condemned Israel’s move to close al-Aqsa Mosque, calling on international community to exert pressure on the regime to observe the “most basic rights” of the Palestinian people.

TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - “The Israeli regime’s move to shut down al-Aqsa Mosque and to cancel Friday prayers is against fundamental principles of human rights and humanitarian law,” Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi said on Saturday.

Ghasemi’s reaction came in response to the Israeli regime’s move to shut down al-Aqsa Mosque on Friday after a deadly shooting at the holy mosque’s compound which left three Palestinians and two Israeli police forces dead.

The Iranian diplomat went on to add, “in addition to all crimes, aggressions, and violations of the Palestinians’ basic rights, the Israeli regime has targeted the religious freedom and rights of the Palestinian Muslims, which will bring about dangerous consequences.”

While highlighting the importance of the re-opening of al-Aqsa Mosque as soon as possible, Ghasemi called on all independent countries and the international community to put pressure on the Israeli regime so that the least rights of people in the occupied territories would be observed.
