TEHRAN, July 24, YJC - Hundreds of people have marched in New York City to express solidarity with the people of Palestine, amid escalated violence over the Tel Aviv regime’s siege of the al-Aqsa Mosque compound, Islam's third holiest site.

New Yorkers rally in support of PalestiniansTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Starting from the city’s iconic Times Square on Sunday, the demonstrators rallied towards the United Nations headquarters and called for the end of Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands.

Chanting “Free Palestine!” the demonstrators also called on people across the world to boycott Israel.

The protest followed similar events in Germany, the UK, Jordan, Turkey, Malaysia, Yemen and Iran over the past few days.

On Saturday, people held a protest in front of the Israeli embassy in London and set the regime’s flags on fire.

Tensions began to soar in the Old City of the occupied Jerusalem al-Quds after Israel fully closed off the compound to Muslims after a reported shootout on July 14 near the site that left two Israeli soldiers and three Palestinians dead. The move sparked far-and-wide condemnations across the Muslim world.

It restored access to the compound later, but placed metal detectors at its front, prompting Muslims to refuse entering the site.

So far two Palestinian youngsters have lost their lives and some 20 more have been injured in clashes with Israeli military forces, who attack protesters with live bullets.

The occupied Palestinian territories have witnessed new tensions ever since Israeli forces introduced restrictions on the entry of Palestinian worshipers into the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East Jerusalem al-Quds in August 2015, Presstv reported.

More than 300 Palestinians have lost their lives at the hands of Israeli forces in the ongoing tensions since the beginning of October 2015.
