Tehran, YJC. Minister of Foreign Affairs has blasted recent statements by US Secretary of State on the Iranian elections.

Providing comments on John Kerry’s recent statements about Iran, Aliakbar Salehi said "Some of the statements are surprising. US support for democracy is just pomp. We believe that it would be good for the US if they learn from history and adhere to basics of international rights.”

He added that regional nations will not forget that the US supported dictators in the area to the last moment.

"If they are so worried about democracy and the right of nations, why did they not respect the Palestinian democratic elections in 2006?” he demanded.

The Foreign Minister added that as each country has its own electoral procedures, Iran has given special role to the Guardian Council defined by the Constitution and accepted by majority of the people.

He asked "Is the Supreme Court of the United Nations a chosen organization to have intervened in the much obscure and disputed 2000 presidential elections and ruled for Bush? Is the Electoral College, where 10 states, that is, only one fifth of the states, are to decide the result, justifiable and democratic?”

He added "I believe this to be the best recommendation for US officials to improve their information through reliable sources and expert consultants; and give thought to the consequences that their unjustified statements might bring about.”
