TEHRAN, August 17 - Iranian President Hassan Rouhani congratulated Indonesian Joko Widodo over the country’s Independence Day.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Rouhani in his message, expressed hope that bilateral ties between the two countries would be expanded further given historical and friendly relations as well as extensive potential of Tehran and Jakarta.
Early August, Iran’s energy minister called for reinvigoration of economic ties between Iran and Indonesia.
Hamid Chitchian made the remarks at a meeting with Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs of Indonesia, in Tehran.
The Iranian side described Indonesia as the largest Islamic country that, together with Iran, is a major member of the international community; “certain countries are opposed to Iran’s independence and self-reliance and seek to block its advancement.”
Referring to Iran’s eagerness to bolster ties with Indonesia, the Iranian energy minister said the Southeast Asian nation possessed great potentials for economic, power, energy and technical ties with Iran.
“Volume of Indonesia’s exports to Iran is double as much as its imports though grounds are available to reach a balanced level in trade transactions in a bid to increase transfer of know-how between the two sides,” he continued.
The official further welcomed the initiative proposed by the Indonesian side for launching direct flights between Tehran and Jakarta stressing that, in addition to electricity and energy, both countries can deepen relations in banking and transport arenas as well.
Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs of Indonesia, for his part, pointed to outstanding history of Iran’s civilization in the world saying “cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran would mark and honor for people of Indonesia.”
He underlined that large volume of investment could be made in Indonesia’s power sector expressing hope that Tehran and Jakarta will increase economic relations to a satisfactory level.
Pandjaitan explained that elevation of ties with Iran would reduce his countries reliance on other countries like the US.
He also urged experts of the two countries to remove barriers to development of cooperation between Iran and Indonesia as well as to work on establishments of direct flights between the two capitals.
