Iran, Oman ink MoU on economic activities in Chabahar Port

TEHRAN, August 24 - Iran-Oman Chamber of Commerce and Chabahar Free Trade Zone Organization signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in a bid to expand trade and economic activities in the port.

Iran, Oman ink MoU on economic activities in Chabahar PortTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - The MoU aims to attract Omani investors to finance projects in Chabahar Port, set a roadmap for Chabahar to establish a foodstuff hub and launch a shipping line between Omani ports and Chabahar Port.

Chabahar Port has the necessary potentials to attract foreign investors, he said in a ceremony to sign the MoU.

“Oman’s port and Chabahar Port can act not only as rivals but also they can play an influential role in the region. We will make efforts to establish a shipping line between Chabahar Port and Omani Al Duqm and Sohar ports as soon as possible.

Earlier in June, Iranian Ambassador to Oman Mohammad Reza Nouri Shahroudi and Chairman of Oman's State Council Yahya bin Mahfoudh al-Mantheri in a meeting discussed ways to broaden bilateral ties.

During the meeting in Muscat, Nouri Shahroudi and Yahya reviewed the ways to expand parliamentary relations between the two countries' parliaments.

The two sides stressed that the long-standing relations between Iran and Oman are an indication of wisdom and prudence of the two countries' senior officials.

In relevant remarks in early May, Nouri Shahroudi stressed the necessity for the further broadening of economic ties and cooperation with Oman.

The two countries should take advantage of the existing potentials to broaden economic cooperation, Nouri Shahroudi said, addressing a 30-member Iranian economic delegation in Masqat.

The Iranian ambassador advised the Iranian companies to export high quality products to Oman, adding that the Iranian embassy in the country will spare no efforts to support them.
