Tehran, YJC. In his letter to the Saudi King, Hassan Rouhani has hoped that the two countries will cooperate to bring peace back to the region.

In a letter responding to the King Abdullah’s congratulations on his electoral victory, Hassan Rouhani wrote "With good offices of the heads of regional countries, especially Iran and Saudi Arabia, peace and stability will prevail the region once more.”

He added "It has always been a priority for the Islamic Republic to care about the region and neighbor countries, and it is to find special importance in the new administration.”

I am delighted with this diplomatic move on behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz and hopefully this will initiate new moves to improve relations between the 2 biggest and most important countries in the region. The two countries could work on a way to improve the status of religious groups whether Shii or Sunni in the perspective countries and within Iraq, Lebanon and other Gulf regions for any serious attempt to end inter-religious conflict. For years there has been inter-religious dialogue between the various Islamic denominations and this can be pushed further by the initiative of Saudi Arabia and Iran. The other major conflict that must be solved in the region is the Syrian conflict. A coalition of all Arab countries, Iran and NATO must help in ending the war there against women and children from a regime that is engrossed in power politics. If these two issues inter-religious conflict and a call for an international coalition can be formed to halt the bleeding in Syria then we can say that finally a successful Shii-Sunni rapprochement can actually take place. Let's hope this will be the case
