On Wednesday, he met with Russian Deputy Minister of Defense Alexander Fomin and Russia's special envoy on Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev in Moscow.

The two sides discussed Syrian developments and the latest efforts and initiatives of Iran, Russia and Turkey (acting as the three countries guaranteeing Astana process) to ease tensions and settle Syrian crisis.

Several rounds of talks on Syria have already been held in the capital city of Astana, Kazakhstan, so far.

Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy since March 2011. UN special envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura estimates that over 400,000 people have been killed in the conflict, which has furthermore displaced over half of Syria’s pre-war population of about 23 million.
