TEHRAN, November 28 - Armenia’s Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan stressed the significance Yerevan attaches to its relations with Tehran.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - “We attach special importance to the ties with Iran and are willing to boost cooperation in the field of energy and other economic fields as well as collaborations in Armenia and Iran’s free trade zones,” Karapetyan said Tuesday in a meeting in Yerevan with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.
He further referred to the growing trade ties between the two countries and said Armenia is ready to help Iranian companies to benefit from the opportunities made available by the Eurasian Economic Union.
Zarif, for his part, stressed that economic ties between Iran and Armenia should develop more than before, adding that free trade zones can pave the way for the growth of bilateral collaborations in this field.
The Iranian top diplomat later met with Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan.
Leading a high-ranking delegation of diplomats and businessmen from the country’s private sector, Zarif arrived in Armenia on Tuesday at the official invitation of his Armenian opposite number Eduard Nalbandyan.
In December, in a high-profile meeting in Yerevan attended by the presidents of the two countries, ranking officials from Iran and Armenia signed five documents, including an agreement on using a joint border crossing linking Iran’s Norduz to Armenia’s Meghri.
