Iran raises concerns over Sheikh Qassim’s worsening healthTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - “Bahraini officials have imposed serious limitations and continued his house arrest, hindering his access to medical services and reliable doctors,” said Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi.

He also stressed that continuing security approaches by Bahraini officials would make the situation in this country more complicated, calling for meddling of international organizations to lift the house arrest and provide secure and immediate medical services for the Bahraini cleric.

On Monday, a human rights group said the health condition of Sheikh Isa Qassim who has been under a virtual house arrest since last year, has dramatically deteriorated in recent days, warning that he is in urgent need of medical treatment.

According to a statement by the UK-based Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy (BIRD) on Monday, physicians who had visited the spiritual leader at his home in the northwestern village of Diraz a day earlier had diagnosed him to be suffering from a “groin hernia requiring an emergency operation.”
