Tehran, YJC. Afkham has said that her office cannot confirm the news about the Supreme Leader’s permission to the government to carry out bilateral talks with the US.

Hossein Rouhani, a member of the Iranian negotiation team closely related to president Rouhani, has lately said in a note that the Supreme Leader of Iran has given Ruhani permission to hold direct talks with the US.

The spokeswoman of the Foreign Ministry Marzieh Afkham in his weekly press conference on Tuesday pointed to the note and said "We have also seen the report but it is not yet possible for us to confirm it.”

She also confirmed reports about Obama-Rouhani correspondences and said "Mr. Obama’s letter was to congratulate Hassan Rouhani on his election as the president. Mr. Rouhani in turn, besides expressing gratitude, mentioned points on various subjects.” "The letter followed diplomatic courses,” she added.

In answer to a question regarding possible meetings between Iranian and American officials in the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Afkham said "There is no meeting with US statesmen on Rouhani's trip agenda. If the 5+1 procedures require such action it will then be carried out.”

Regarding a Youtube clip about Iranian military members in Syria, she asserted "We have no official military presence in Syria.”
