Iran wins team title in Wrestling World Championships

Tehran, YJC. The Iranian wrestling team has won the World Championships with two gold, one silver, and two bronze medals.

Iran completed the Wrestling World Championship with two gold, one silver, and two bronze medals to get the team title.

This year’s championship is Iran’s first away since 1965. In the years between, Iran has gained the title only at home.

This year Hassan Rahimi and Reza Yazdani won Iran two gold medals at 55 and 96 kg, Ezatollah Akbari a silver at 74 kg, and Masoud Esmailpour and Ehsan Lashgari two bronze ones at 60 and 84 kg.

Iran holds four other championships from previous competitions from the Yokohama 1961, Manchester 1965, Tehran 1998, and Tehran 2002 rounds of competition.

Iran gained 46 points to be followed by Russia with 44, and Georgia with 29.

"Though not the individual gold he might have wanted, Ezzatollah Akbari’s bronze at 74kg helped the Iranian team win their first team title in men’s freestyle since 2002. Before his semifinal bout with when they won the championship on their home soil of Tehran,” FILA says.
