Tehran, YJC. The president has ordered monetary sources to be allocated to the revival of Lake Urmia.

Deputy Minister of Energy in Water and Water Waste Affairs Rahim Meidani says that President Rouhani has ordered the necessary fund to be provided in order to recover Lake Urmia.

The recent drought in Iran has brought the lake to its lowest water level ever recorder, had said Mohammad Javad Mohammadizadeh, the head of Iran’s Environment Protection Organization on August 2, 2012.

Meidani maintained that there are numerous ways to revive the lake, including the transfer of water from nearby sources.

He further added, meanwhile, that as experience has shown elsewhere; transferring water from other places might have downsides as well, bringing about undesirable environmental conditions. "Therefore, the job must not be done without environmental research and evaluations.”

He asserted that the president pays special attention to the state of the lake, adding that the government has asked for the necessary amount of money to be calculated in order to see about the allocation.

"The president ordered the budget to be provided for once the amount of monetary sources is calculated,” Meidani added.
