Tehran, YJC. Official says gas transmission infrastructure in northern and north-eastern Iran to help boost import.

Iran Gas Transmission Co. CEO who was speaking at a press conference said in answer to a question whether with the operation of the Shurjeh reservoir project, the import of gas from Turkmenistan would be abandoned "As the project will be operational, the northern and north-eastern provinces’ need for gas will be met. But the imported gas is sure to be used for other provinces.”

Reza Almasi maintained that pipelines with the capacity to carry 100 million m3 gas through the northern and north-eastern provinces have been designed and are operational.

"Right now Iran imports gas from Turkmenistan from three spots. With the Hashemi Nejad refinery production capacity as well as the Shurjeh reservoir, there will still be room for transmission,” he asserted.

Almasi further added that infrastructure has been created to double Iran’s gas import from Turkmenistan and said "With these facilities on hand we can import 80 to 90 million m3 gas from Turkmenistan.”
