TEHRAN, YJC. Head of the High Council for Human Rights of the Islamic Republic of Iran has said that Western human rights mechanisms are faulty and that the appointment of a special reporter on Iran has been an illegal and wrong act.

Mohammad Javad Larijani said last night in the Imam Khomeini International Airport prior to his flight for Geneva "The Islamic Republic of Iran has had bright conduct in human rights since the victory of the revolution and it is regarded as an active figure in this area.”

He pointed out that UN documents have been written 70 years ago by a group of secular and liberal figures and said "There is a certain bias to the documents and we must try to make room in them for Islamic teachings.”

Head of the High Council for Human Rights of the Islamic Republic of Iran asserted "Just as Westerners are free to live as they like, we Muslims also have a right to act and live according to Islamic thought.”

He added "Countries such as the US tap into holes in human rights mechanisms to use human rights as a tool for pressuring independent countries.”

Larijani provided comments on the procedure for appointing a special reporter on Iran and said "This was the most unpleasant thing the West did to Iran. Surely it is interesting that the reporter’s words are what the US department of State says.”
