Tehran, YJC. -- Iran and the Latin American nations have common characteristics as both have defied the hegemony of the world powers and maintain pro-independence morale, a prominent Iranian diplomat said.
In a meeting with a parliamentary delegation from the Latin American countries here in Tehran on Sunday, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Morteza Sarmadi lashed out at the big powers for imposing sanctions on the governments which benefit from national support.
"Cruel sanctions against the nations are morally and practically doomed to failure,” Sarmadi told the Latin American lawmakers, coming from Bolivia, Cuba, Ecuador, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Argentina and Brazil.
He further underlined that parliamentary ties between the nations could in turn strengthen relations between the governments.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran places a high value on the relations with the Latin American countries at all levels, including the parliamentary ties,” Sarmadi explainexd.
A number of the foreign legislators, for their part, expressed views on the ties between Iran and their respective countries, with all emphasizing the need for the reciprocal visits by the parliamentary delegations.
Iran’s parliament has in recent months intensified measures to strengthen ties with parliaments of the other countries, following President Hassan Rouhani’s announcement that his administration will adopt the policy of constructive interaction with the world.
