Censorship everywhere, details matter

Tehran, YJC. Culture Minister has said all around the world the internet is censored, what matters is how it is done.

Minister of Culture of the Islamic Republic of Iran providing comments on the role of cyberspace in a country’s cultural development said "Today we can reach into every house and leave our mark with cultural programs through cyberspace, social networks, and satellite. With that in mind, we have to move in a way that through social networks, Koranic education is helped.”

Ali Jannati asserted "We must not act in a way to turn social networks into a field frequented only by seculars.”

"There are security concerns in every country. Also, some websites contain content that goes against our values. We must not let them misguide people with these things,” he added.

Pointing out that there are limitations inside every country Jannati stated "Even in Europe they are frustrated by the infiltration of the American culture. So they use censorship to prevent the American culture breaching into their country.”

"Censorship by itself is accepted by all,” he asserted, adding "The disagreement that we have today has to do with details. For example, some believe that Viber has to be censored while some do not agree. There is such disagreement even among members of the censorship instances definition committee. Personal bias has to be kept out of it and the law has to be considered.”
