Tehran, YJC. The Nowruz table is a tradition kept from olden times. On the table people set many things each with special meanings.

Egg is one of the things that the Iranian set on their Nowruz table (sofreh). It holds special significance.

Most importantly, the egg can be interpreted as the symbol for the origin of life. Something that is about to thrive with life and start development.

The eggs are first boiled and then painted in lively colors before brought to the table.

In some rural areas they place an egg before the mirror. This comes from the belief that as the cow, symbol for winter, who holds the earth on its horns shifts it from one to the other horn, the egg on the mirror will move and thus people know that years have shifted.
