"The Zionist enemy attempted action to assassinate a nuclear scientist in the past 2 years, but the timely intervention of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) security menthwarted this operation,” Fars news agency quoteda deputy IRGC commander for security, identified as Colonel Baqeri, as having said.

Baqeri, adds the report, further said that the IRGC is "duty-bound to protect the country’s nuclear scientists.”

The Islamc Republic had also previously announced that plans for the assassination of its scientists - including Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan, Daryoush Rezaeinejad, Professor Majid Shahriari, and Professor Masoud Ali-Mohammadi - hadbeen carried out by plans devised by Israeli agents.

DanRavivof CBS News and Israeli journalist Yossi Melman in their 2012 book, entitledSpies Against Armageddon: Inside Israel's Secret Wars said that Israeli spies hadup to that time killed at least 4 Iranian nuclear scientists.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has repeatedly held Israeli, US and British entities responsible for the assassination of the country’s nuclear scientists since early 2010.

Political analysts assert that the assassinations came after several rounds of sanctions against Iran failed to stop the country’s efforts to accomplish its nuclear energy program.
