Washington (dpa) - Talks aimed at normalizing relations between the US and Cuba are to begin in Havana, Cuba, on Wednesday and Thursday.
The talks, between US diplomat Roberta Jacobson and Cuban diplomat Josefina Vidal follow five weeks after US President Barack Obama announced the US intention of restoring relations with the communist country just 150 kilometers off Florida's coast.

The historic turn in policy began in mid-December, when Cuban President Raoul Castro and President Barack Obama agreed to open talks and end more than 50 years of isolation by the US.The talks are to lay the groundwork for negotiations leading to the opening of mutual embassies.
