ABU DHABI, February 22. /TASS/. Russia's T-90MS main battle tank has good prospects on the armaments markets of Middle Eastern countries, manufacturer Uralvagonzavod CEO Oleg Siyenko said at the IDEX-2015 arms exhibition on Sunday.
The tank has successfully passed tests in Kuwait and demonstrated good performance 'in heavy dust conditions," Siyenko said.
"Currently, the United Arab Emirates and other potential customers from the countries of the region are studying our combat hardware. I'm confident that the tank has strong potential and will be in demand in the armies of the Middle Eastern countries," the Uralvagonzavod head said.
General Director and Chief Designer of the Urals Design Bureau of Transport Machine-Building Andrei Terlikov said on Sunday that Russia may soon switch to implementing contracts on the delivery of T-90MS main battle tanks to Middle Eastern countries,
The chief designer told TASS news agency at the IDEX-2015 International Defense Exhibition in Abu Dhabi that "enormous work was carried out for promoting this armor in Middle Eastern countries" over the two years that had passed since the first demonstration of the tank's modernized version at the previous weapons show.
"After holding a number of tests, we note the growing interest of potential customers in this weaponry," Terlikov said.
The T-90MS tank has undergone a whole range of improvements "to meet the requirements of potential customers," he said.
In particular, the manufacturer increased the tank engine's power, equipped the tank with a new air conditioner and strengthened the armor of the motor and transmission compartment, and also mounted a 12.7 mm machine gun on the tank's turret and made a number of other modifications.
"This tank saw a change in the armoring concept while the motor and transmission compartment gained powerful protection, including against close combat weapons," the chief designer said.
"We can successfully counter the latest developments of our opponents' anti-tank devices," he added.
"Work has switched to practical efforts involving tests and the armor's examination by customers," the head of the Urals design bureau said.
"We can soon switch to implementing our contracts," he added.
The Russian exposition at the IDEX-2015 exhibition was organized by state-run hi-tech corporation Rostec.
Russian defense companies that are part of Rostec have brought over 700 exhibits to the Abu Dhabi defense show, including a full-scale specimen of the Khrizantema self-propelled anti-tank system and the export version of the Ratnik "future soldier" individual combat gear, which will be featured for the first time at the IDEX-2015 defense exhibition.
