Sri Lankan Minister of Science, Technology and Research Susil Premajayantha said his country is willing to resume buying Iran’s oil.
Sri Lanka seeks resumption of Iran oil import"Sri Lanka is after buying oil and petrochemical products of Iran as it did in the past,” Susil Premajayantha said in a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif here in Tehran.

He also expressed the hope that bilateral energy ties between the two countries would be expanded by removing certain little barriers.

The senior Sri Lankan official further extended to Zarif the message of President Maithripala Sirisena addressed to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

Zarif, for his part, said the Islamic Republic of Iran attaches great importance to boosting bilateral ties with Asian countries, especially with Sri Lanka in various fields.

He also referred to lifting sanctions against Iran, and expressed hope that Iran and Sri Lanka could witness further expansion of bilateral ties through settlement of the remaining financial barriers.

Susil Premajayantha is in Iran following official invitation of Iranian Vice President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari.
