Iran strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Afghan Kandahar which left a number of Emirati diplomats and Afghan officials and citizens killed or injured.
Iran decries deadly terrorist attack in KandaharIranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi extended condolences to Afghan and the UAE states as well as families of victims of the tragic terrorist attack.

"Terrorism is the most important security challenge in the region and the world. It is targeting peace and security of countries and nations without any exception,” he said.

He noted that battling terrorism needs all-out efforts and endeavor of regional countries and the international community.

The United Arab Emirates' ambassador in Afghanistan has been injured in bomb attack in the eastern city of Kandahar, the UAE foreign ministry said in a statement.

"(The ministry) is following the heinous terrorist attack on the guesthouse of the Kandahar governor which resulted in the injury of Juma Mohammed Abdullah al-Kaabi, UAE Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, and a number of Emirati diplomats," the statement said.

Afghan officials said the explosion killed at least seven people and wounded 18 others, including the ambassador.

The victims also included the deputy governor of Kandahar.

The president of the United Arab Emirates declared three days of mourning for the victims after the attack which came on January 11.
