Iran, Turkey, Russia are observing Astana talks on Syria, said Iranian Foreign Minister Spokesman Bahram Qassemi.
‘Iran, Turkey, Russia, observing Astana talks’"The meeting is held under supervision of Iran, Turkey and Russia,” he said.

Asked about presence of certain countries, including the US in the inauguration ceremony of the meeting, he said, "Kazakhstan as the host country has invited certain countries and international organizations to take part in the inauguration ceremony. In the same way they have invited US envoy to Kazakhstan.”

The Iranian delegation led by Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hossein Jaberi-Ansari traveled to Astana on Saturday for the intra-Syrian talks scheduled for January 23-24.

The Iranian delegations has separate meetings with Turkish and Russian sides for further coordination.

He said that numerous meetings have been held on Syrian crisis so far, but Astana meeting ‘under certain conditions’ could have more positive effects comparing to previous ones, because key regional players and important countries of the region are playing a role in the process.

The three countries have over the past several months been working together and holding trilateral talks aimed at improving the situation on the ground in the Arab country.

Last month, such efforts led to the conclusion of a deal enabling the evacuation of civilians and armed elements out of the northwestern city of Aleppo as it was being liberated by the Syrian Army.

The US State Department announced on Saturday hat it would not send a delegation to Astana since it is busy with power transfer in the country.
