Zarif, UN Fedotov stress boosting bilateral cooperation to fight drugs

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif and Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Yuri Fedotov, discussed bilateral cooperation in battling narcotics.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready for cooperation with UNODC, Zarif said in the meeting here in Tehran, adding "The West’s failure in preventing drugs trafficking and smuggling is an important issue. The issue of battle against narcotics should not be politicized,” he added.
 
Yuri Fedotov, for his part, appreciated the active role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in fight against drug smuggling, and said 75 percent of seizure and discovery of drugs in the world is done by Iran.
 
He said Iran has always been forerunner in fight against drugs.
 
Fedotov stressed boosting cooperation with Iran and confronting crimes.
 
He also said support for establishing peace and security in Afghanistan to confront drugs and money laundering is necessary.
