TEHRAN, September 25 - Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif slammed US for imposing new restrictions on Iranians’ travel to the US.

Zarif: Trump’s travel ban, fake empathy for IraniansTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - “Trump’s fake sympathy for Iranians rigs ever more hollow, with his new and even more offensive travel ban against such outstanding citizens,” he tweeted.

Zarif made the remark via his official twitter account early on Monday shortly after Trump signed the new rules, in which citizens of Chad, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Syria, Venezuela and Yemen face further restriction in traveling to the US.

The range of restrictions imposed on each state is different, for example in the case of Venezuela, only certain government officials and their families are affected.

Trump’s former ban on travelers from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria and Yemen was enacted in March and expired on Sunday evening.

Zarif also appeared to be referencing Trump’s recent speech at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, to which the Iranian foreign minister stressed “Fake empathy for Iranians fools no one."
