Iran’s VP for women meets with Iceland’s president

TEHRAN, November 29 - Iran’s Vice President for Women and Family Affairs Masoumeh Ebtekar met with Iceland’s President Guðni Th. Jóhannesson on the sidelines of women political leaders global forum in Iceland.

Iran’s VP for women meets with Iceland’s presidentTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - During the meeting, the Iceland’s president stressed that his country is after promoting capability and potential of women.

He also stressed the key role of education in boosting women’s status and said the issue is a key for participation in various fields.

Th. Jóhannesson emphasized the destructive effect of war and violence in the Middle East and called for cooperation to lessen dangers.

He called Iranian women’s progress in education ‘positive’, saying that 56 percent share of Iranian women in higher education and their successful presence in art, sports and civil and social domains especially in public institutions and charity is part of Iranian women’s progress.

Ebtekar, for her part, said the forum is a good opportunity for developing bilateral relations in women’s affairs.

She also outlined Iranian president’s serious support for increasing share of women in management positions and speeding up bills and rules to support women.

The two sides also stressed boosting bilateral ties in various fields, especially in science, technology and increasing the level of economic and commercial exchanges.
