Sixteen new construction sites for nuclear power plant

Following the country’s long-term plan for enhancement of electricity production via nuclear power plants, 16 new construction sites for the power plants are recognized.
Based on an announcement by the Atomic Energy Organization in the sidelines of the second annual gathering of nuclear energy officials, 16 new sites for the construction of nuclear power plants are identified in regions bordering the Caspian Sea, the Persian Gulf, the Gulf of Oman,  in Khuzestan, and North-western Iran.

In the exploration project, first the geographical space of the whole country was investigated in 4 stages.

The announcement says "It is important that the population geological criteria, topography, seismology, meteorology, hydrology, access roads, power transfer grid, land application, ecology, passive defense, etc. are considered scientifically and specialistically.”

The announcement adds that after the first phase, the sites were ranked based on water availability and with consideration of economical, engineering, ecological, social, and security criteria.
