TEHRAN, May 15 - Ranking Foreign Ministry officials from Iran and India held the 11th round of a joint consular meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Iran, India hold joint consular meetingTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - In the gathering, attended by the Iranian and Indian foreign ministries’ director generals for consular affairs, the two sides discussed issues of mutual interest in the consular domain.

The participants also expressed satisfaction with the progress made in achieving basic agreements in judicial areas like transferring prisoners, extradition of criminals and establishment of judicial assistance in criminal matters, Iranian Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

The Iranian and Indian diplomats also called for the finalization of an agreement on judicial assistance in civil and commercial areas and for the implementation of those agreements.

The possibility of lifting visa requirements for holders of official and service passports, taking advantage of the available capacities to issue electronic and upon-arrival visas with the aim of facilitating commercial ties, and people-to-people communications were among the other issues discussed at the session.

The two delegations also underlined the need to establish security cooperation in the fight against human and drug trafficking, terrorism and organized crimes.

They further exchanged views on the condition of Iranian and Indian prisoners and the ways to prevent prolongation of judicial processes.

Heading a delegation, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has travelled to India after visiting Turkmenistan.
