Iran intent on resisting US pressures: LarijaniTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Speaking at a meeting with Chairman of the Serbian Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee Zarko Obradovic in Tehran on Wednesday, Larijani hailed the “independence-seeking spirit” of the Balkan country and said it is attractive to Iran.

“Countries that have been dominated by the US do not have a good fate and (are forced to) pay a huge cost in the long term,” he stated.

Larijani further pointed to the US moves against Iran and said with the imposition of more sanctions, Washington is seeking to pressure Tehran but Iranians will resist such pressures.

The Serbian lawmaker, for his part, pointed to bilateral relations between Iran and Serbia and hailed the high level of parliamentary and political ties.

However, the level of economic cooperation between the two countries is not good enough, he said, calling for further efforts to boost trade ties.

Iran and Serbia have recently ramped up efforts to boost bilateral relations between the countries.

In March 2018, after a gap of 27 years, direct flights between Iran and Serbia resumed, when an IranAir jet touched down at Belgrade's Nikola Tesla airport.

Earlier, in August 2017, Iran and Serbia agreed to liberalize visas for travel between the two countries.
