TEHRAN, Jun 22 - Head of Iran Civil Aviation Organization announced that Iran’s airspace is safe for all flights.

TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Speaking to IRNA, Head of Iran Civil Aviation Organization Ali Abedzadeh said Iran’s airspace is safe both in the Persian Gulf and inside the country and all foreign airlines continue their flights through Iranian airspace.

He noted that flights through Iran’s airspace have not decreased.

He went on to say that over the last two years, in the wake of tensions in the region, and thanks to the security in Iranian airspace the number of flights in Iran’s skies increased to over 1,000 per day.

"No foreign airliner has issued a statement to Iran Civil Aviation Organization as regard changing routes and its avoidance to fly in Iran’s skies," Abedzadeh reiterated.

In comments made a few hours after the incident, IRGC Commander Major General Hossein Salami said the shooting down of the US aircraft had a straightforward message that any foreign intrusion into Iran’s sovereign territories would draw a crushing response.

The IRGC said on Thursday that a US spy drone that violated the Iranian territorial airspace in the early hours of the day was shot down by the IRGC Aerospace Force’s air defense unit near the Kooh-e-Mobarak region in the southern province of Hormozgan.

The intruding drone was reportedly shot by Iran’s homegrown air defense missile system “Khordad-3rd”.
