FILA's management came together in an extraordinary meeting in Thailand's Phuket island after the Executive Board of the International Olympics Committee (IOC) on February 12 decided to take wrestling out of the program of the 2020 olympic games.
The extraordinary meeting was chaired by Martinetti.
Martinetti asked members of the FILA Executive Board whether or not they thought he was incompetent. Martinetti later asked for a vote of confidence on him.
After a great majority of the FILA Executive Board members voted that he was incompetent, Martinetti announced that he was resigning and he left the meeting.
