Tehran, YJC. Former Iranian ambassador to France and diplomatic advisor to the Khatami administration Mohammad Sadegh Kharazi says Iran is a highly important country in US politics.

"It is a dream for the Democrats and Republicans to solve their problems with Iran. Iran is not just a geographical territory to them. Today, many countries have revised their previous policies in relation to Iran. Therefore, to conduct good relations with Iran is one of the most important obsessions in the US foreign policy,” asserted former Iranian diplomat and advisor to Iran's former President Khatami in an interview with ANA.

He added "Right now, a major part of the US public opinion is interested to see the problems solved. Many countries also follow the changes in relations between the two countries, since they believe that creating a secure zone in the Middle East is impossible without Iran.”

The diplomat also provided comments on Turkey’s current stance on regional terrorism and said "There is this old difference between Iran on one side and Turkey, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia on Syria. It is a pity that Saudi Arabia and Qatar blatantly support ISIL, whereas Turkey has taken a different stance. But all of them hold strange and unconventional stances against the issue.”

"Turkey is hoping to get back to the Ottoman era and it is trying to disturb the area. Turkey does not care if the Saudi government falls. Neither does it care about other countries. The Erdogan administration and the Justice and Development Party have adopted an extremely dangerous, harsh, and extremist approach in their foreign policy.”

Kharazi further pointed out "The Muslim Brotherhood failed in Egypt. Now it has opened its headquarters in Turkey where their actions are organized. In the meantime, Turkey has done everything it could to topple Bashar Assad. They made a strategic mistake in Libya as they did in Yemen.”

The former Iranian diplomat also noted "Turkey was quite unpredictable in supporting ISIL. We were quite surprised that with Brotherhood tendencies, Turkey would support ISIL and its acts of crime. This country can be a threat to the Middle East. To work in a different sphere than Saudi Arabia and ISIL, they chose to attend a different axis and they acted with double standards in regard to terrorism. That is why we have to see that they supported ISIL and its ideology but they are intending to fight the same ideology in Iraq. This cannot be adopted as an approach to fight terrorism. Terrorism is terrorism and there are no good or bad categories.”
