Iran’s policy is in line with creating stability in Afghanistan, said Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif.
Zarif: Iran’s policy in line with making stability in AfghanistanIran is ready to work with the UN and its agencies in various fields related to Afghanistan, Zarif said in a meeting with the United Nations envoy for Afghanistan, Tadamichi Yamamoto here in Tehran.

He further said that Iran backs the UN efforts and initiatives on establishing peace in Afghanistan.

"Iran has been calling for stability in Afghanistan, and its efforts are in line with creating stability in the country,” Zarif added.

Yamamoto, for his part, stressed that measures of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding Afghanistan have been ‘constructive’ and Iran has been strongly supporting Afghan national unity government.

Afghan security conditions deteriorated following withdrawal of foreign military from the country, he said, adding the number of civilian casualties in the country is still high despite Afghan government’s efforts to establish peace over last one and a half year.

He also called on Iran to continue its constructive role for making peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Iran is one of the most important donors to Afghanistan, which has kept its promises to help to the reconstruction of the war-ravaged country.

Iran has built several roads, power transmission lines, border stations and many other infrastructure projects to better link the two nations.

Iran has also contributed more than $50mln annually to Afghan anti-narcotics efforts since 2010.
