Iranian cyclist Sasanian loses life in car accident

TEHRAN, July 25, YJC - Member of the Iranian national women's cycling team, Zaynab Sasanian, has been killed in a road crash, while driving her car in the country’s northwestern city of Ardabil.

Iranian cyclist Sasanian loses life in car accidentTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - The 19-year-old Iranian sportsman lost life early on Monday, when her car collided with a tree in the University of Mohaghegh Ardabili Street of the city, located 594 kilometers northwest the capital Tehran.

Mehdi Maleki, a correspondent for sports desk of the Persian-language Iran daily newspaper later wrote on his Twitter page that Sasanian’s cousin has also been killed in the accident, and her sister has sunk into a coma after suffering a head injury.

Late Sasanian was a member of Iran women’s national squad, and represented the Islamic Republic during the 2017 Asian Cycling Championship.

Sasanian had put in inspiring performances in time trial and track events of Iran’s Cycling Championships, and clinched several medals.

The Cycling Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran has offered its deepest condolences to her bereaved family.
