EU’s Mogherini rebuffs U.S. calls to ratchet up pressure on Iran

TEHRAN, November 14 - The European Union’s top diplomat rebuffed calls from Washington to ratchet up pressure on Iran, saying the bloc has no plans to discuss new sanctions on Tehran.

EU’s Mogherini rebuffs U.S. calls to ratchet up pressure on IranTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - The U.S. continues to follow a hostile approach towards Iran, and has urged allies in recent weeks to raise the cost to Iran of its defense program and what it claims to be Iran’s meddling in the region.

She also said that the EU has got no plan for mulling new sanctions on Iran.

“We have not spoken of more sanctions by the EU on Iran neither this week nor last week.”

She has already said that Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal with P5+1 is not renegotiable, and that the EU would continue to preserve the deal.

In the same way, Iranian officials have reiterated that the nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is not open to renegotiation and that Iran’s defense program has nothing to do with the deal.
