Tehran, YJC. Lawmaker says the Majlis has invited European legislative members to Iran.

Speaking with Mehr News Agency, lawmaker Abbasali Mansouri said "In the past two weeks I have had meetings with the ambassadors of Sweden, Belgium, and Greece, inviting colleagues to Iran.”

The head of Iran’s parliamentary friendship group with UK, Sweden, Belgium, and Greece added "I have also invited Mr. Jack Straw, the former UK Secretary of State who is currently the Head of the UK-Iran parliamentary friendship group, to have a visit to Iran.”

Answering a question regarding Straw’s answer to the invitation, Mansouri said "There has been no official response yet, but I have heard off the record that he has accepted the invitation.”

Addressing the sensitiveness of Iran-UK relations, the Kashan representative to the Majlis said "The UK has a bad historical record in relation to Iran, which is why we have always treated it with caution. The Right Honorable Jack Straw has also frequently pointed out that in the past the UK had not considered Iran’s interests, leaving negative impacts on the country and driving the people of Iran pessimistic toward the UK; but he has always kept a good stance on that.”

Mansouri maintained that it would be valuable for European parliaments to visit Iran in order to get to know of the country’s advancements and the failure of Western sanctions.
