Tehran, YJC. Zarif says the entire Geneva deal will be dead if the US Congress imposes new sanctions.

As Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has said in an interview with Time that any new sanctions by the US Congress will void the Geneva agreement on Iran’s nuclear program, lawmaker Nozar Shafii says anti-Iranian sanctions by the US will revoke the Geneva agreement.

Pointing out that political currents in the US Congress seek to tighten the sanctions and mentioning Zarif’s statement that Iran will not make negotiations under duress, the member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Majlis said "The goal for the Geneva agreement was to start serious negotiations. Therefore, new sanctions must not be instated no matter what.”

"Sanctions increasing will better enlighten the path ahead of Iran,” he asserted, adding "the West and especially the US doing so, the Iranian nation will understand that the reality of these countries lies in enmity with Iran, therefore they will rely more and more on their leaders and the revolutionary mode of thought,” Shafii stated.

He added that the Majlis closely follows the movements of Western countries on the Iranian nuclear program and maintained "US propaganda and adventurism will leave a negative impact on the Geneva agreement.”

Also, lawmaker Jalil Jafari Boneh Khalkhal in interview with ICANA in response to recent statements by Barack Obama said "After the Geneva III agreements US officials are trying to make an escape ahead through propaganda in order to use the agreements in their interest.”

Iranian officials’ statements on Barack Obama’s new talks in relation to Iran are covered by the Saban Center for Middle East Policy, related to Brookings.

Iran believes that under pressure from Israel and related power centers such as Saban, which is related to the Egyptian Jew capitalist Haim Saban, the US is trying to lead the Geneva agreement into failure.
