TEHRAN, December 2 - An Iranian Labor Ministry official said that the country’s hand-woven exports reached $120 million over the first 5 months of this year (started on March 20, 2017).
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Director General of Iranian Labor Ministry for Production Cooperatives Alborz Mohammadi said the amount equals over 5 million square meters of carpet.
He said that over three million Iranian carpet weavers are working in the country.
Iran’s hand-woven exports reached over $350 million in the year before (March 20, 2016-March 20, 2017), he said.
The US, Germany, Lebanon, the UAE, Pakistan, Japan, Britain, Qatar, South Africa and Australia are top ten costumers of Persian carpet with the US taking the lead in imports of the product from Iran.
Carpet-weaving is undoubtedly one of the most distinguished manifestations of the Persian culture and art, and dates back to ancient Persia.
