TEHRAN, June 04 - The Syrian army forces thwarted major attacks by Daesh (ISIS or ISIL) terrorist group on the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, inflicting heavy losses on the foreign-backed militants, as the US-led coalition resumes its attacks on the northeastern province of al-Hasakah.

Syria’s Army repels Daesh attack in Deir Ez-Zor as US-led offensives resume

TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Units of the Syrian Arab Army on Sunday managed to foil attempts by militants affiliated with Daesh to advance in the eastern areas of Deir ez-Zor province, SANA reported.

An army unit clashed with Daesh terrorists that had infiltrated from the direction of the Syrian-Iraqi border to al-Sha’afa village and the town of Hajin on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River, killing or injuring all the members of the terrorists.

According to the report, another army unit attacked Daesh militants that intended to sneak to the village of al-Hasarat north of Al-Bukamal, killing the majority of the terrorists and destroying their equipment.

In another development, the US-led coalition forces resumed attacks on villages in the southern suburbs of Hasakah on Sunday.

The coalition’s fighter jets fired several missiles at a village in the area, killing at least two people and injuring two others, the report said, adding that the attacks caused heavy damage to the area.

Syria is in the final stages of a battle against Takfiri terrorist groups that poured into the Arab country after the outbreak of the civil war in 2011.

On November 19, the Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group was flushed out of its last stronghold in Syria’s Al-Bukamal. The city’s liberation marked an end to the group’s self-proclaimed caliphate it had declared in 2014.
