The Spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran Marzieh Afkham addressing the UN Human Rights Council’s recent resolution against the country said that the act comes as a political tool and the result of double standards, expressing pity over "the continuation of the unconstructive trend of introducing sanctions against Iran,” Mehr News Agency reports.
"The action taken by the supporters of this resolution is to deepen disagreement between countries and to impose certain standards on others, as well as hinder the international human rights procedures. The Islamic Republic of Iran considers such an approach to human rights as unethical and unconstructive,” she asserted.
She further said "By introducing such a resolution, the acting parties have overlooked Iran’s progressive trend in human rights and the good steps the country has taken in abiding by its commitments and strengthening cooperation with international organizations. For such imposition of resolutions on countries to go on will seriously endanger the basic criteria considered by members of the Human Rights Council.”
Afkham added "Improving the state of human rights in the world is a universal preoccupation. No country holds superiority over others in this important human undertaking, therefore the Islamic Republic of Iran continues its positive cooperation with the UN human rights system and related international organizations. Iran favors talks and cooperation against a realistic background.”
