Iran, Russia to enhance coordination against US meddling in Syria

TEHRAN, July 4, YJC - In a phone call on Tuesday, Iranian and Russain national security secretaries talked about the two countries’ cooperation to prevent the US meddling in Syria.

TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - On Tuesday morning, Secretary of Russia’s Security Council Nikolai Patrushev held talks with his Iranian counterpart Ali Shamkhani by phone aimed at enhancing coordination between the two countries on the Syrian crisis and discussing preparations for the next Astana process talks in the Kazakh capital.


Ali Shmakhani told his Russian counterpart the conversation that it is highly essential for the two countries to increase their coordinated cooperation in order for stopping US’s illegal interventions in Syria and preventing its territorial integrity and national sovereignty from being violated.


“an evident trend of strengthening Takfiri terrorists’ morale and preserving some of their seized lands from the American side is observed which is carried out by the US attacks to the Syrian army’s positions,” Shamkhani added, “which is a clear violation of both UN Security Council resolution and Charter”.


Patrushve also pointed out to the “Astana Meeting 5”, being held in the current week, and stressed that to promote the the agreements and preserve the ceasefire maintained in Syria, it is essential to determine a series of executive mechanisms for monitoring and preserving the ceasefire.


“following up political mechanisms will not hinder the effective fight against terrorist groups outside of the current processes and innitiatives which have paved the way for the maintenance of ceasefire in Syria” Patrushev said, expressing his satisfaction over achievements in the political arena and on the ground thanks to Tehran-Moscow joint cooperation in fighting against terrorism in Syria .


The call came as the 5th round of international meeting on Syrian crisis kicked off in Kazakh capital of Astana on Tuesday, July 4. The most important issue on top of this round of Astana summit is further coordination about the Syrian regions where the conflicts and tensions are to be mitigated. The Iranian delegation participating in the meeting is headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Jaberi-Ansari.
