Tehran, YJC. Lawmaker says that there are no justifications to disqualify Hashemi from candidacy and that an attempt to such effect by the Guardian Council will not have favorable results.

The Tehran Representative in the Majlis Ali Motahari said to parliamentary reporters in answer to a question regarding the odds that Hashemi may be recognized as unqualified for presidency "If that happens the very basis of the Revolution and the system will be challenged.”

He asserted that among the contemporary figures of the Islamic Revolution, Hashemi has had the greatest role, a role greater even than that of the Leader.

"If Hashemi is disqualified the breakthrough meant by the Leader will not come about,” he stated.

Asked would Hashemi make any objection if disqualified, Motahari said "I rather think not. I cannot speak in his behalf.”

Answering the question whether the Supreme Leader could issue a state decree on the issue, he said "There is the possibility. The Leader can issue a state decree on this matter.”
