TEHRAN, August 20 - Iranian researchers succeeded to design a treadmill for handicaps with spinal cord injuries, a device which suspend these patients’ weight and makes it easy for them to walk.

TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Amin Assadi, the designer of the device, said that as one of the important exercises for spinal-cord-patients is walking exercise, the device was devised with the purpose of strengthening their nerves.

Pointing out to the function of the treadmill, Assadi noted that the device has a system that neutralizes the weight of spinal-cord-patients to make them able to exercise walking and strengthen their nerves.

“the device is equipped with a jacket which can raise the patient from wheelchair with 90 percent of his/her weight suspended and then the walking exercise gets started,” he added “the treadmill can suspend up to 135 kilograms of the patients’ wright”.

Assadi asserted that the device is of a high technology and that Germany and Swiss are the two countries in the world that has the technology. “The foreign-made cases of this device are expensive, so we decided to make the Iranian one”, he added.
