Tehran, YJC. Former lawmaker says that the increasing sanctions show that Iran needs to be more watchful not to be manipulated by the US.

"When Imam Khomeini said the relation must not be one of the wolf and sheep, we were not under so many sanctions. Now that it has intensified the sanctions it shows that it has grown more wolf,” said Emad Afrooq in interview with Qanoon regarding the Tehran-Washington talks.

The former lawmaker said that the recent Obama-Rouhani phone call has been a hasty, sentimental act, adding "It was after this act that some people sought bigger goals and manipulated Imam Khomeini’s words about the continuation or discontinuation of the ‘Down with USA’ motto, saying Imam was for removing the motto.”

He added "Imam Khomeini had said that as long as it is a wolf-sheep situation, relations with the US are not advised. Why do they have to say such a relation must be put to polls? Where does this humiliation go? What are we doing? The US has committed so much crime, the 1951 coup, the pre-revolution prisoners, incessant coups; add to that the illegal, cruel sanctions.”

Asked if he thinks there is a way to establish equal relations with the US, he said "We must first of all see if the US was more wolfish then or now. Was it more wolf before the Eastern bloc was disintegrated or after?” adding "When Imam said the relation must not be one of the wolf and the sheep, we were not under so many sanctions. Now that it has increased the sanctions it shows it has grown more wolf. Then we will be considering what to gain from the talks. If the talks are to be open and in the presence of others, they will be of much benefit. But if we are to compromise our nuclear rights or enter special areas, it will be an outright loss.”
