Tehran, YJC. Bokova says UNESCO always welcomes support for cultural heritage, urging Isfahan government to complete the Isfahan cultural axis case.
Following her visit of the city of Isfahan on Monday, UNESCO
Director General Irina Bokova said "I have come to Iran to get to know Iran’s
international monuments, especially the city of Isfahan with three internationally
registered sites.”
She asserted that Isfahan is an important city and a human
heritage with idiosyncratic beauty.
Pointing to her visit of the Naqshe Jahan square she said "Seeing
a fair on in the middle of the square I was rather taken by sadness; but of
course I noticed that it was temporary. Handicraft is part of Isfahan’s
cultural heritage. Handicraft booths around the Naqshe Jahan square help secure
cultural tourism. Handicraft is considered one of the cultural features of
Isfahan with great entrepreneurship.”
Mrs. Bokova further said "I am so happy that all the aspects
of cultural heritage are seen in Isfahan, which is to take pride in.”
"I liked the Jameh Mosque dome with its unique beauty,” she
expressed admiration.
In answer to a question by Mehr reporter regarding the
registration of the Isfahan cultural axis including 399 monuments within 6
kilometers Bokova stated "UNESCO is always ready to do such a thing. It is the Iranian
government which has to complete the case, send it to UNESCO, and pursue its
registration.”
