Tehran, YJC. The statue of Iranian poet Khayyam is frequently ordered abroad, sculptor says.

Artist who has sculpted three 2-meter-tall statues of the Iranian poet Khayyam says that from outside Iran orders are frequently made for a copy of the statues.

Hossein Fakhimi speaking to Mehr News Agency said that he studied and consulted with many scholarly people before making his version of Khayyam.

After his 6-month study time, he spent one year and a half to carve giant stones into statues of the Iranian poet.

Of the three Khayyam statues made by him, one is to be installed in Tehran, one in Nishapur where Khayyam lies, and one will go to Italy.

He said he also took great care to find out what place the Nishapur statue should be installed in, doing much research and placing the architecture team with some 500 pages of information to help them.

Maintaining that there have been requests from Russia, Romania, and the US for copies of the statues he said "The Khayyam statue has many fans around the world, including the US where they have asked for a copy and even already prepared the installment site.”
