Friday, 10 July 2020_Hundreds of demonstrators took to the streets in the Argentine capital of Buenos Aires on Thursday to protest against the national government and the quarantine measures imposed in the city, during Argentina's independence day amid the coronavirus outbreak.
Waving blue and white Argentine flags and holding signs, some reading ''the serial haters are gathered here,'' demonstrators chanted and motorists honked their horns.
Others chanted for ''freedom'' and ''justice'' while directing their rage at President Alberto Fernandez's government, before heading to the Casa Rosada Presidential Palace in the historic Plaza de Mayo square.
Weary Argentines are hopeful of finally seeing light at the end of the quarantine tunnel, with reports emerging that the South American nation's tough lockdown policy is working.
Local authorities say they have been able to keep bed occupancy rates in hospitals at around 50%, averting a potential run on the public health system.
As of Thursday, Argentina confirmed 87,030 coronavirus cases and 1,694 deaths. In comparison to it's smaller neighbor Chile that has registered some 306,216 cases and more than 6,682 deaths.
Argentines still have nine more days of strict quarantine to endure, with measures put in place such as citizens holding transit papers whilst out of their homes to ensure only the most essential movement in the capital city.
