Tuesday, 01 September 2020_The Gaza Charities’ Association has raised the alarm over the dire humanitarian situation in the Israeli-blockaded Gaza Strip, amid the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Charities in Israeli-blockaded Gaza warn of catastrophe amid pandemicDuring a press conference on Monday, the charities urged the international community to intervene and support the civilian population in the Gaza Strip as it faces a humanitarian catastrophe.

Currently, Gaza’s population of some two million faces an unprecedented coronavirus outbreak. There are nearly 250 active coronavirus infections within the community in the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli regime’s constant restrictive measures, including bans on the entry of fuel and goods, are hampering the provision of vital services and have severely depleted the healthcare system.

The Gaza Strip is suffering from acute shortages of electricity and medicine because of the Zionist blockade. The crippling blockade is being tightened by the day. The enclave has been under the Israeli blockade since 2007.

Gazans have to cope with less than four hours of electricity per day, a difficult situation at any point, but especially serious at the time of the outbreak of COVID-19.

Due to the Israeli blockade, Gazans are under terrible strain, and their worries over the coronavirus have been hugely compounded.

The strip has been under a tight lockdown in an attempt to curb the spread of the deadly disease since August 24.
